A stroll through our ‘ecological adventures’
Welcome to our ecological-focus newsletter
Through these pages we hope to provide you with some of the latest findings from the biodiversity stewardship sites we are assisting to be developed, as well as the status of each assessment. We also hope to bring you some mirth (did you sound out the name of the newsletter?) as we know it’s a serious business trying to deal with the latest extinction crisis to befall the planet, but the occasional giggle doesn’t hurt.
So, who are we?
Thesium is a specialist consultancy that works with landholders to develop biodiversity stewardship sites (see back page). These provide credits— tradeable units that represent the work done to im prove the habitats for all species, with a particular focus on the species listed in the NSW Biodiversity Conservation Act (2016) (BC Act). We are mainly staffed by the two directors—Greg (an ecologist with well over 30 years of surveys throughout NSW) and Paul (who is a builder by trade). Both have played a role as developer and owner/manager of biobanking offsets (the precursor to Biodiversity Stewardship Sites established under the Biodiversity Offsets Scheme). Other people also help us—you will read more in here.
Our work mainly involves identifying offsets that will best suit the impacts being made to biodiversity by the development of major projects that identify themselves through the NSW Planning Scheme. These sites may be ones we target for acquisition, or which are held by landholders who come to us and wish to participate in one of the joint venture opportunities we provide. We also aim to satisfy the needs of the development industries, through crafting innovative and responsible solu tions to their unavoidable biodiversity impacts.
We hope you will appreciate the work we do and reach out to get our assistance with your project’s needs, both after approval and ideally in the long lead-up period so we can be ready to go, together.
